I had the unfortunate experience of having to deal with an incredibly rude woman in my store the other day. Her manner and words crossed the line several times–even though I tried to reason with her. Bear in mind that this is all taking place in front of a store full of shoppers.
She was angry because I would not do what she wanted–even though I explained to her what she needed to do. Her behavior was inappropriate and childish. I finally told her it was time for her to leave and escorted her out the door. I did not raise my voice, nor was I rude or angry.
I am wondering what has happened that makes people think that they no longer have to follow the rules of society or common decency. Why is it okay to enter a building or place of business carrying on a loud conversation on your cell phone? When did the words “please” and “thank you” become obsolete? Why do children speak to their parents as if they were stupid? Why do drivers ignore the posted signs?
This list is long–and I am frightened and discouraged. It’s time to stop ignoring bad and unacceptable behavior. We have the power to make a difference. Say something. It doesn’t have to be big or loud. People just need to be reminded to act like caring and responsible human beings.
Please–we can fix this–but we need to start now. Pass this along–Thank you. Take care, Brenda
