Brenda’s closet. Day 17

I’m going to tell you a secret.  I only share this with my friends. I cut up a lot of my clothes to make them do what I need them to do.

If the sleeves on a sweater are too short to look good, and they make the jacket you wear over it (to hide the fact that the sleeves are too short) uncomfortable and restricting, then you’re wasting your time and energy.  It may as well be a vest or a sleeveless shell…then you can use it.  Yes, I cut off the sleeves! Just cut them off at the sleeve side of the shoulder seam. Use small sharp scissors and take your time. The seam will keep them from fraying.  Ta-dah! Now you can use it to build a layered outfit and the bulk is gone. Of course, you won’t want to take off the cardigan or jacket that cover your alterations. It will be your secret….you look so sleek (and not hot)!

I do the same thing with blouses. If you’ve seen me, you know I love a white collar. Most blouses have sleeves that are too short for me, so I just cut them off.  I buy blouses that have great collars, mostly in our stores. I know I will get a lot of use from them, and they were very affordable, so I don’t feel bad about cutting them up.  I probably have eight blouses in my closet with no sleeves..ha ha.  This is easier than trying to find sleeveless blouses.

One more secret…You know how belt loops make bumps if you’re wearing a top untucked? I cut those babies off too.  I only leave them on pants that I actually wear a belt with.  I don’t need any extra bumps.

Feel free to leave comments. I’d love to hear from you.  Take care. Don’t take getting dressed too seriously. Brenda
