Tips & Tricks

Fake fur–do it!

Lots of fake fur this season–and it’s a good thing!  A coat may be more than you are comfortable in (although there are some cute ones), but try out the accessories.  Fur trimmed gloves, a fur scarf, or a fur vest (all fake fur), are just enough to take your outfit up a notch! We are women, and we like a little glamour!  Enjoy!

Bright colors?

We’re seeing a lot of bright colors this year, but sometimes less is more!  If you feel good in a hot pink sweater-wear it and you will be beautiful! Iif that much color is intimidating, try some of the new nail polish colors–black, navy blue, teal, fiery red, even green-or purple!  It’s fun, fashion forward , and it will make you smile! Feeling bolder?  Try a red, or purple or yellow purse–or a vivid scarf. Wear it like you own it

How to wear lace..

Lace blouses and dresses are very current, but often tricky to wear.  Here are a few tips! Keep it simple.  Just one lace thing–a lace blouse with a simple skirt, or a pair of jeans.  If you’re wearing a lace skirt, the top shouud be simple and sleek.  Remember-opposites attract! This way your pieces are not competing!

Details make an outfit!

Change your stud earrings for something larger with movement-or with more shine–it’s like a facelift!  It updates your look.  Try a scarf in a bold pattern or color-don’t be shy or you’ll look matronly.  Try a shoe with a bright color or leopard print–a purse in an unexpected color is smart and fresh! Small things can make a huge difference in the total look–be bold and have fun! Try changing just one thing today and see how it feels.  I think you’ll like it!

Wear more bracelets!

The trend this year is to pile on the bracelets–it’s fresh and fun! Mix it up!  If you’re timid-start by mixing only one color or metal-but wear three or more!  We’ve seen arms with tons of bracelets-ands it looks amazing!  Do you have a bracelet you love, but never wear? Maybe it just needs to be worn with a few more!  The secret is to be bold and have fun–there are no rules.  Try it!

shape wear.

We can all use a little help now and then. Shape wear is usually the solution when it comes to getting dressed. There Are many different pieces available out there from various manufacturers. The trick is to find the ones that deal with your problem the easiest and quickest. When you buy shape wear size does matter if you are a medium try the medium. These pieces are made to fit your size. Have a muffin top? Then you need a shaper that reaches from your thighs to the bottom of your bra. Also available are high waisted panties and pantyhose that smooth that muffin top. They make panties that lift your backside or rounded it out. A minimizer bra can reduce your bust size by 1 inch. These things are all worth trying to create a smoother silhouette, but you have to experiment.
Some labels that work: Nancy Ganz, Spanx ,Barely There, Miraclesuit, and Hanes.

Tips for a flatter tummy!

The current Instyle magazine has some great tips on how to flatten our tummies-we’re always looking for ways to improve.  These make sense.

Wear high waisted skirts or pants-the high waist tucks in the ab flab–also shows off the smallest place–our rib cage.

Switch to green tea.  People who drink green tea instead of other caffeinated beverages lose more belly fat! and it’s good for you!

Get 6 to 8 hours of sleep.

Work on strong back muscles, better posture is slimming.

Layer your tanks. Shapewear first, then a softer tank over.

Avoid carbs, canned, and carbonated.

This all sound logical and do-able to us.  We’re going to try. We’d be happy for a little flatter tummy and better posture!

Dress like you mean it.

Dress like you mean it.  Plan your outfits.  Don’t wait until 8:30 in the morning to figure out what you’re going to wear.  This creates way too much stress.   When you get home at night- while you still have your face on- pick out tomorrow’s clothes.  Check for any problems like missing buttons, torn hems, and wrinkles.  Sometimes, the outfit requires rethinking or maybe it’s a do-over.  It happens.

If an outfit works, you feel great.  If it’s a mistake, your whole day starts wrong and your self-esteem plummets. Your confidence disappears.  Be kind to yourself and take the time to plan for the next day.  It really makes a difference.  Believe me, I know.

Fascinators–we have them!

You know–all those pretty, frivolous hats and headbands and ornaments that are so popular since Kate Middleton! We’ve been stocking them for some time now–feathers, sparkles, flowers, netting, ribbons and more!

They really are gorgeous–and make you feel so special! I’ve heard women talking about hat parties–what a fun idea! The British ladies have always been hat wearers–maybe they know something we don’t. Something about glamour, mystery and sex appeal–something about your eyes looking up from under a brim. Guys love them. Makes us feel a little romantic…

Stop by our Designer and Boutique store at 906 Great Plain Ave. and try on a few. Find a place to wear one–let’s dress like the beautiful women we are.

Let’s figure out the legging thing-ok?

I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but leggings are here to stay. I now see them as a great option for all of us–no matter age or shape! Really.
The secret is to figure out how long the top you wear should be. Young girls can get away with anything–and so they should. The rest of us can look good and up-to-date if we choose our tops carefully. They should fall at mid-thigh to just below the knee.
Always cover your bottom.

The top should fit nicely at shoulder and bust. You have options after that–empire waists traditionally have some fullness, but an a-line shift keeps the silhouette narrow. You can wear a longer tee with a short boxy tee layered over it. A short jacket over a longer tee is always a good option. Leggings let us wear miniskirts and mini-dresses without looking like we’re trying to be our daughters.

It’s a nice fresh look–especially for those of us who are no longer able to wear shorts or short skirts. It looks good–and you’ll see it on women of every age.

Look for lightweight leggings for summer. Lengths vary from mid-calf to ankle length. Wear what suits you best, but have fun with it! It’s a great current look! We’ll never steer you wrong–

Take care. Look ‘em in the eye and smile-and mean it…Brenda and Maggie
