postheadericon Skinny jeans–Seven, Citizens of Humanity, Hudson–

Yes, they’re still here.  In fact, we see them everywhere..on women of all ages, shapes and sizes.  It can be a great current look, but there are some secrets to pulling this off.

First–it’s not the best look if you’re hippy.  Stick with boot cut- it will balance you out.   If you are very slender, you can wear almost any top, from layered tees to empire waist tops, to jackets.  If you are average size–it’s  best to wear a longer top—tunic length is foolproof.  That would be mid-thigh.  Another option is a longer tee with a shorter one on top; or a longer vest, or open shirt or jacket.  Always remember–if it makes your ankles look tiny, it’s going to make your bottom look bigger!  So you need some camouflage to even your body out.  Always check the back view in a full length mirror!

Some great skinny jeans:  Seven, Citizens of Humanity, Earl, Earnest Sewn, James, Miss Sixty, and True Religion.  Available at Closet Exchange.

You can have fun, look fabulous, and save money!  You can be best dressed for less.

Take care.  We love seeing you.  Brenda and Maggie

postheadericon Monday, June 14th is Flag Day.

In 1949,  President Harry Truman signed into an Act of Congress that National Flag Day be observed on June 14th. On that day in 1777,  the Continental Congress passed a resolution specifying that the flag carry 13 stripes and 13 stars.  The colors would represent valor (red), purity (white), and justice (blue).

If you don’t own a flag, go out and buy one.  Display it.   It”s a blessing and a privilege to live in this country.  God bless America.

Take care, Brenda and Maggie

postheadericon Memorial Day and Store Hours

Our stores will be closed this Sunday and Monday.  We will re-open on Tuesday, June 1st at 10:am.

At the end of the Civil War, mourners from the North and South began placing flowers and flags on the graves of family members.  That was the beginning of Decoration Day.  Mr. John A. Logan, a retired confederate officer is credited with getting May 3oth set as the date for Decoration Day.

On the first national Decoration Day in 1868, 5,000 war widows, orphans and other mourners gathered in Arlington National Cemetery.  They placed flowers and ribbons on the 20,000 graves of the union and confederate soldiers buried there.

After World War I and the loss of 130,000 US soldiers, the name Decoration Day was changed to Memorial Day.  The first unknown soldier was interred on Armistice Day in 1921.

Since then, every Memorial Day at Arlington National Cemetery, this soldier and other unknown soldiers are honored with a wreath laying ceremony conducted by the President or Vice President of the United States.

Memorial Day became a federal holiday in 1971 when Congress moved it from May 30th to the fourth monday in May, giving federal workers a 3 day weekend.

Through today, we have parades and vigils to remember those who sacrificed their lives for their country.
